Local Breeder List
If you are looking to buy a purebred puppy and you'd like to find a local breeder that may be able to guide you in your search, please check out the contacts below. All of the breeders are members in good standing with the West Volusia Kennel Club. Not all breeders may have puppies available but they might be able to help you locate the puppy you're looking for.
Some of the breeders listed on this page have been working with a particular breed for decades. They are extremely knowledgeable of the breed and can provide valuable insight into its behavior and temperament. The breeders on this page not only breed their dogs but actively promote the breed through WVKC programs, AKC dog shows, community outreach activities, and other dog events. Many are also active with the national breed Parent Clubs.
We highly recommend you consult with at least one experienced breeder before deciding on what kind of dog to bring into your life. Having realistic expectations before making that commitment gives you and the dog a better chance of forming a healthy and happy relationship.

Choosing the Right Breeder
When buying a puppy, one of the most important decisions you'll make is what breeder to buy your puppy from. Do your homework before you make any decisions. You need to find the right fit for your situation and there are certain things you should consider.

-
If this is the first time you'll have ever owned a dog of this breed, you might want to find a breeder that will be willing to provide guidance before and after the sale.
-
The proximity of the breeder is another thing to consider. Are you comfortable being hundreds or even thousands of miles away from them or would you prefer a breeder in your own home town?
-
Will you be showing the dog or doing other activities with it? Can the breeder help you in those areas?
-
What does the breeder do with their dogs? Do they do more than just breed them?
-
Have you been to the breeder's kennel or residence?
-
Will the breeder provide references you can contact?
-
Does the breeder provide a contract that details all the specific requirements and responsibilities of both parties?
-
Are all the breeder's litters registered?
-
What organizations is the breeder a member of?

Everyone wants to buy that perfect puppy so make sure you do everything you can to make that happen. Know the breed and know the breeder. If you've done your homework in those two areas you've got a great chance at success.
